He's definitely not invincible and I don't know how much gravitas he has, but he definitely picks a good script sometimes. Maybe he's like Vincent Chase, always chasing after films that are great in his mind, but only getting a few critical hits.

I've always assumed that being a good actor entails being able to choose a good script. And I would especially think that being a good director would include keen script-reading.

I've always assumed perhaps Affleck requires a really solid director to reach his potential instead of being able to bring it on his own. Also, along the same lines as script-reading, perhaps he and his handlers have overreached with projects like Daredevil and Gigli, assuming a certain invincibility or gravitas that he doesn't actually have.

There is a lot to be said for conditioning and expectation, as you point to here. I can brew Ethopia Sidamo or Arabian Mocha Sanani for someone expecting Folgers and they think it is terrible--too strong and bitter. If I tell them it is "gourmet" coffee before they taste it, though, their reactions are better.

If that worked in reverse, we could save a crap-load of money at Starbucks...

I appreciate the correction in terms of Midnight Oil. Apparently more people could do with it, because everyone I know who frequents the place believes it to be owned by Harding and staffed by its students.

I am really glad it isn't, though, since that means a coffeehouse can stand alone and support itself in Searcy, AR--something that I have long been skeptical of since no other has lasted.

SO, I'm guessing you already took the GRE. I don't know how you could study for it. To me, it was one of those things you either had a foundation built for or you didn't. I thought I had a pretty good vocabulary, but there were words on that test I'd never even seen before. Hope it went (or goes) well!

I really admire the way you evaluate, reflect, and think about things in general...
Not very many people ever think twice about something that either remotely or greatly affects them, and I love that you let things really affect and change you, when necessary.
